My son and I are doing a mini road trip for tomorrow nights game against Pittsburgh. Was just wondering what recommendations for the best food or “must see” things near campus! Thanks

Outside of the major cities, what towns in Virginia are worth a day trip?

I used to take a lot of tiny trips on days off and want to get back into exploring. Good food and proximity to cool outdoor spots are definite positive marks! Like many Virginians, I'm familiar with Richmond, Norfolk, Alexandria, Charlottesville, etc, but I know I haven't been…

"Everyone here goes above and beyond here. They make history come to life. Amazing free festivals. Gorgeous grounds. This is a hidden treasure!"

"While I was there the buildings were closed. Apparently they don’t open for routes til April. But the grounds are lovely, there are trails and informational signs so you can do a self guided tour outside. There is one trail that loops around the main bldg but does not connect to another trail, it would be nice if it did. But all in all a very nice place to visit and walk around."

Cecily Brown

"This is a small plantation with lots of history. 3 VA governors stayed at this home. There is little to see on the property but lots of informative signs all over. The back of the house has a trail with bee hives. The front of the house has a large corn field. At the parking lot, on the other side of the property map is a slice of wood from on old tree with a historic timeline based on the age, growth, of the tree, which I found interesting. The slavery period is the most interesting period for me. I can't believe how some slaves were badly treated. Everyone should be free, period! If I read it correctly. Some slaves feed to the property. Hopefully they found a safe haven, and was treated well when they got here. The restrooms are in the small white building to the right in the back if the house. There is an area where you can rent for event, to the right of the house."
