What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find Henderson Canyon a breathtaking sight when the wildflowers are in full bloom, transforming the desert into a colorful spectacle. However, the experience can be marred by extreme traffic and crowds, especially on weekends. Some reviewers note that the flowers can be smaller and more spread out than expected, leading to disappointment if expectations are too high.
"If you are going to drive couple of hours to see this, don't bother. It's not worth it. Flowers are like shrubbery small flowers and they are spread out. Looked like looking at colorful weed grass. If you go there to enjoy dessert landscape, it's worth it. If going there just for wild flowers, it's not worth it. Also, if you make an illegal U turn across the double yellow line, cop will give you a ticket worth $300-400. Even if you go there during weekday when it's empty. The police or park ranger was nice enough to not give me a ticket but he told me that's what it costs. Imagine, an empty dessert road and you decide to turn around and cop pulls you over."

For capturing the vastness, use a wide-angle lens and a smaller aperture (higher f-number) for a larger depth of field. Early morning, shortly after sunrise, provides beautiful soft light and fewer crowds. Late afternoon, before sunset, also offers warm, golden light. Midday sun can be harsh and create strong shadows, making photography more challenging.
A tripod can be helpful for low-light conditions (early morning/late evening) and for ensuring sharp images, especially if you're using slower shutter speeds. However, be mindful of where you set it up to avoid obstructing others or damaging delicate plants.
