What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the spectacular and inspiring views from the Hogback, describing it as a breathtaking drive along a narrow ridge with dramatic drop-offs. The unique geological formation and challenging road are consistently praised, though some find the sheer drop-offs and steep grades unnerving.
"Visited on 9.22.2025. Spectacular views from this vantage points. Just be careful this stretch of road is very narrow with no guardrails."
Rick White
"Pro: Very beautiful. Cons: If you’re afraid of heights this is a terrifying stretch of road. Narrow shoulder, no guardrails and massive drop offs on both sides. And if you’re heavy or towing, be prepared for 14% grades. That is not a typo. 14%! It doesn’t last long, but it’s long enough to lose control if you’re not careful. Safe travels!"
D Gallahue
"The Hogback is an outstretched finger of the mountain above reaching down into the badlands below. It’s just wide enough to fit a two-lane highway on it with treacherous drop offs on either side. The views of the the two box canyons it separates below and the surrounding area is inspiring."
