What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Green Cay Nature Center and Wetlands for its beautiful, free boardwalk experience through lush wetlands, offering abundant wildlife sightings like birds, turtles, and iguanas. The Nature Center adds educational value with live native animals. It's praised as a peaceful escape, though some note the heat and lack of shade on the boardwalk.
"Absolutely loved this place. A local birder recommended it, and we're so glad we went. The nature center is small but has several nice displays inside, as well as Oliver the rehabilitated senior screech owl. We were there right at feeding time, so we had the pleasure of hearing some educational programming and watching him eat his evening meal. They also have a lovely little gift shop. The boardwalk is clean and well maintained, and very easy to navigate. The birds seem very comfortable being close or even on the boardwalk, so we got some great views. We saw 18 species of bird in ~1 hour in the late afternoon; this seems to be a roosting spot for ibis. There's ample parking and also public restrooms."

"Nice boardwalk, easy to walk on. A lot of birds, turtles, and iguanas. We didn't see any alligators today. The Nature Center was open so we were able to get some nice pictures in there also. Three baby alligators in there, along with mounted animals, and live frogs and snakes. It's a beautiful place, very quiet and peaceful, you'd never know the real world is right next door."

"Such a beautiful boardwalk! You can choose between a full mile or a shorter 1/2 mile loop that winds through swamps and wetlands. There are signs all along the path with animals to look out for, which made it extra fun for my two toddlers.
If you’re going during the heat of the day—bring a stroller! It was hot when we went. There are shaded spots, gazebos, and little huts along the way, but the sun still gets intense.
Inside, there’s a nature center with cool animals like snakes, frogs, and other Florida creatures. They also offer free tours and a scavenger hunt just for the kiddos.
Bonus points: there’s a changing table in the women’s bathroom. Love when places think of the moms!"
