Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the North Country Trail Ludington Segment for its stunning natural beauty, particularly the river views and lush forest understory. The well-maintained trails and peaceful atmosphere are frequently highlighted, making it ideal for both day hikes and backpacking. Some users note that trail markings can be challenging in certain areas and advise carrying ample water, especially on the North Country Trail section.

"This is hike-only trail—no motorized vehicles, no bikes. It works its way through flat pine forest, then along a country highway for 1/4 mile or so to cross the river—THEN the real beauty begins as you go up a bit in elevation and to lovely views of the meandering river and distant hills. 💚"

"The forest understory is amazing. Ferns, mushrooms, and flowers everywhere. Trail is very well kept up, clearly marked and peaceful. Camping areas are clean, level and far enough from roads to avoid day-use. No bugs as of September 1st (has been dry this year). Trail is good for an active dog if you bring plenty of water. I did see one group of mountain bikers but isn’t beginner friendly for bikes."

"A beautiful natural area and a lovely trail to hike. A friend who has been trying to hike the entire Michigan section of the trail convinced me to join him on a 3 day journey. We made about 34 miles.

Plenty of water to drink from streams if you disinfect. Lovely areas to rest and relax. Please be cognizant of the rules about camping, etc. Also respect the Native American lands the trail goes through.

Trail seems to be well market. We even hiked a bit of it in the dark."
