St. Mary Falls Trailhead ~ 2.2 Miles out and back The second of the four waterfalls on our hike was St. Mary Falls. With its beautiful color and tremendous energy, if we were to rank the four waterfalls, this one would be among the top two. We hike St Mary Falls and Virginia Falls from The SMF parking trailhead. 4 miles 600 feet in elevation gain and views for days! The waterfalls are a small trickle this September but still an amazing hike.

📍HERE - St Mary Falls, Glacier National Park This is 3.1 mile roundtrip - easy/moderate hike in Glacier National Park. Its a beautiful short hike. Definitely recommend carry a bear spray & cap (as there is barely any tree cover). Also finding parking can be pretty hard. You can use shuttles that run from St Mary visitor center and park at the visitor center itself. . . . . . . . #glaciernational...

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise St. Mary Falls for its stunning beauty, with many highlighting the vibrant blue water and picturesque cascades. The hike is generally considered easy to moderate and family-friendly, though parking is a significant challenge. Some mention the trail can be busy, and bear safety is a recurring reminder.

"This was a very fun hike. I really enjoyed it. The waterfall was very beautiful. Make sure you get there early in the morning to ensure parking. We got there at seven and it filled up by eight. Also be careful on the wood bridge since I got a splinter. I would definitely come back here because the falls are super pretty and you can go swimming in the river. Just be careful. The views are amazing. The trail is very busy. Once you’re there, there’s a lot of great places to sit and have a snack and enjoy the view! It is also in bear country so be careful for bears because some people saw them we didn’t, but I would still be careful and bring bear spray"

SkiRacer_35

"This is a good short hike. I’d say it’s easy because going in is basically downhill but that means the hike out is uphill. Still, I this mostly easy with a lake and two falls to view. You could swim if you want to because there’s a small beach under the falls. This is a good short stop if you have a bigger one or long drive on your agenda. We entered the park before 7 and didn’t have to get a pass for The Road to the Sun."

Sharie King

"The hike was easy, I believe the guide says moderate, not sure what qualifies it as moderate. We had a 2 year old with us and he did just fine. Great falls even in late September."
