It feels like ages since I’ve had Mountain views. And while there is always a grand debate on whether or not Clingmans Dome is in NC or TN- I’m just going to keep vibing and dream about spending next month among the hills. Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the breathtaking panoramic views from the observation tower, calling it a bucket-list destination. The challenging, steep paved hike is consistently mentioned, with many appreciating the benches for rest. While parking can be busy and the facilities basic, the stunning scenery makes the effort worthwhile for most.

"$5 parking credit card only at the kiosk. Get ready for some intense cardio because it is a half mile hike completely uphill. The views were worth it. Just prepared for the intense walk up there and take your time. There are several places to rest along the walk up including benches, rocks, etc. The visitor center has nice postcards, stickers and magnets (and other things but that’s what I bought). There are only composting toilets available near the parking area."

Virginia Nyberg

"We were in Cherokee and decided to make the trip to Kuwohi, formerly Clingsman Dome. It was a beautiful, autumn Saturday. It was really busy and difficult to find parking (you had to drive around until you spotted someone leaving and wait on them). Although it was busy, the pathway it wide enough to allow everyone to travel at their own pace. It’s a half mile to the top, with a pretty steep incline. But, there’s lots of places to stop and rest."

"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Clingmans Dome (now officially called Kuwohi) is truly a bucket list stop in the Smoky Mountains! Don’t let the name change throw you off—some signs still say Clingmans Dome, others say Kuwohi, but it’s the same amazing destination.

Parking is super easy—$5 with a credit card at the kiosk when you arrive. There are bathrooms at the start (not the cleanest, but definitely glad they’re there). The walk to the top is no joke—it’s steep, so wear comfy shoes and take your time. Thankfully, there are plenty of benches along the way to rest and soak in the mountain air.

When you finally reach the top, the view is absolutely breathtaking—you can see layer upon layer of mountains stretching for miles. It’s one of those places where pictures don’t even do it justice, but I still recommend snapping a ton (and if you like mine, a little ❤️ goes a long way in helping me share the beauty).

Pro tips:
• Go early or later in the day to avoid the biggest crowds.
• Bring water and maybe a light jacket—the temps are cooler up here.
• Don’t rush it—the journey up is part of the experience.

Whether you call it Clingmans Dome or Kuwohi, this is an unforgettable stop in the Smokies. Highly recommend!"
