"I am sure it's great for walkers and also if you know what to expect. I crossed it the first time coming home from Glenstone via Google and wasn't prepared for the narrow lane. Scary! Kept my eyes on the road so can't speak to the views. But amazing it's still operational."

"This bridge was the longest single span masonry bridge in the world when it was built in 1859. Or so we were told as children.
In kindergarten at Clara Barton Elementary school, the bus took us over this bridge every day. The bridge was just a two lane bridge, with no pedestrian/bike lane. If you missed the bus, you had to squeeze past all the traffic to get to the other side.
When we were older, we looked at the bridge from Cabin John, and noticed a large access door in the side of the bridge. We speculated as to whether it was used by the Underground Railroad."
