What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Rock Garden Trail is praised for its stunning canyon views and the unique, surprising volunteer-built Rock Garden. While generally considered a moderate hike, some find the inclines strenuous, especially towards the summit. It's recommended for those with a reasonable level of fitness, and hikers advise wearing pants due to overgrown brush.
"I wouldn't consider this a hard trail. Passed hikers of all ages on the way up and down. Some inclines for sure but nothing overly strenuous if you take your time. Far harder trails in TX than this one. Nice area at the top to relax and enjoy the view. It's roughly 2.5 miles each way. Took around 3 hours total, including breaks."

"Hiked this in April 2023 and it was a sunny 80 degree day that had a nice steady wind that made it feel better. This trail starts off with some up and down elevation, but at the end is much more strenuous with the elevation gain. It is not the most difficult trail I went on and the views are worth it at the midpoint with a place we ate lunch overlooking the valley and at the top with a flat top that you can walk all the way across with higher views of the valley. For Texas, this is one of the harder trails with the elevation and was glad we picked this trail because it is a great way to see all of Palo Duro Canyon."

"Amazing hike from start to finish. Very wild and not anyone when we went. Some overgrown brush covering trail, bring pants! Not really hard, just not for overweight unhealthy people."
