My friends and I are visiting Yosemite in may. My friends want to do el Capitán but I’m not sure it’s a great idea because we have no prior hiking experience and live rather sedentary lives. Can anyone over some input?

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Capitan Mountains Wilderness for its stunning natural beauty, challenging trails, and profound sense of solitude. Many appreciate the opportunity to disconnect and experience true remoteness. However, some note that road access can be rough, and preparedness is crucial due to the lack of services and potential wildlife.
"FS 130 is fine at first, but has some very bad spots further in. FS 5657 became too rough much further away from the trailhead, so fs130 is still your best bet for getting close with low-clearance"

"The Capitan Mountain Wilderness is a gorgeous area and nice destination for day hikes or a weekend of camping with all of the surrounding national forest land. I hiked for a few hours up trail 64 beginning at the trailhead at the end of road FS 130. It was a challenging hike with a ton of switchbacks up the mountain. While I didn't make it to the actual Capitan peak trail I was still offered some beautiful views and glimpses of a lot of wildlife including deer, woodpeckers, bluebirds, chickadees, nuthatches, etc. If you plan a visit remember that this is a wilderness area so plan accordingly with your water/supplies. FYI road FS 130 is wide and actually in decent shape. It's rutted pretty good in a few places but most vehicles shouldn't have much trouble navigating it all the way to the wilderness trailhead."
