What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Hansel & Gretel cottages charming and unique, offering a delightful fairytale experience. While some cottages were under renovation or less visible, the overall atmosphere and the 'cottage hunt' aspect were highly praised. The hilly terrain and residential nature require some planning, but the visual appeal makes it a worthwhile stop in Carmel.
"Some were excellent. Some were standard. Several were being remodeled or something. It’s fine to see, but I’m gonna say if you didn’t know they were labeled Hansel and Gretel houses you wouldn’t notice if you drove by them, other than a few.
Not a lot, but there’s a decent amount of hill walking. So if you’re with anyone elderly, it might be a little challenging.
We parked around sixth Avenue and Santa Fe St. This seems like a good starting point.
I think the most fun was getting the flyer with all the houses and then trying to identify them one by one, kind of like bingo."

"Super cute! Love the Hansel and Gretel name signs on the wooden gate, the many bird houses hanging from trees and along the side fence.. glad we checked it out. Didn't go inside, just checked out the outside."
April Louie
"Pre warning when looking for the cottages you are able to get a map at the library that gives you the locations. All the homes are in a residential area with a lot of hills. Walking may be changing for some. We drove and quickly parked to the side before taking photos. Many of the cottages were under construction or you had to look over a gate to see them. The cottages are located around the same area."
