Planning Idaho panhandle tour, incorporating Trail of the Coeur D'Alenes
I'm looking at a simple bike tour for this fall. Theory is: international travel probably won't be allowed throughout the year, so I should keep it in the US where I live. But probably by late September, things will be open enough that I can eat in restaurants, shop inβ¦

Reviews Summary
Visitors appreciate the Captain John Mullan Museum for its peaceful, shaded trails and the historical insights into Mullan's road-building efforts. It's seen as a nice, quiet stop for a short walk and a break during a road trip. However, some find the interpretive signs in disrepair and amenities like the porta-john to be unreliable.
"A picnic area suggested on the sign.... We saw one picnic table. Ample parking lot size. Interpretive signs could use some work. Nice trail to walk nonetheless."

"I stopped here on the way home from the Snake Pit out of curiousity. Some of the information markers are in bad condition, not able to read. I parked in the lot where many people park who bring their atvs and dirt bikes. The road splits...left uphill and right downhil. I walked the right road, to another area where there is a short hiking trail, shaded by really big, beautiful trees. The trail is easy to walk, shaded all the way and so quiet. I loved it. Information plaques were set every so many feet to read about Mullan and his road building adventure. I believe that time 1850s -1900s was a time when men were really men. Such a massive undertaking, building that road by hand. Back at the top, I didn't walk down the left hand road because it was hot and I didn't have any water with me. I do think the small hike would be nice for kids to get out of the car, have a picnic and run some energy off. Only downside was the portajohn was padlocked closed and I desparately needed a toilet. My daughter mentioned to me once that I should always carry toilet paper, ziplock bags, and a small shovel. I'm telling you now, don't leave home without them!! It's a long trip home if you don't."

"Nice quiet area with bathroom and picnic table. Sad to see all the trees that were rotten which had fallen and not cleaned up."
