What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the stunning, otherworldly landscapes of Cathedral Valley, often describing it as a highlight of Capitol Reef. The solitude and unique geological formations like the Temples of the Sun and Moon are frequently praised. However, the challenging road conditions and the absolute necessity of a high-clearance 4WD vehicle are consistent points of caution.
"This is the reason we came in on the Fish Lake side, staying at the Cathedral Valley campground (6 spots, free, 1st come, bring your own wood, no gathering. Toilet and tables. Fire only in the rings). It changes elevation from nearly 10,000 to roughly (I think) 4000. Rough drive, but doable even in our Subaru Outback. Would not do without 4x4 or awd and decent clearance and tires. So worth it, as even the drive in was so gorgeous, and I wish I had gotten pictures of that. I'm going back to camp along that route somewhere."

"Completed the entire loop on 4/2/2018, starting on the Fremont River side. River crossing in my high clearance Jeep. Took my time and had lunch break at Temple of the Sun. Pretty windy this day, so some dust clouds on the trail. Also be prepared for cattle on the trail as this area is open range grazing."

"Wow. You need to travel some sometimes bumpy dirt roads (probably need high-clearance) to get here, but what a spectacular area that you will often enjoy in solitude. With nearby mountains and red rock cliffs as a background, these inspiring red monoliths are amazing, especially at sunrise or sunset. Beautiful Utah backway."
