What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Guests consistently praise The Carolina Inn for its historic charm, prime location on the UNC campus, and exceptional service, making it a top choice for gamedays and university visits. While the ambiance and hospitality are highly rated, some find the dining, particularly afternoon tea, could offer more variety for the price, and noise from events can occasionally be a concern in this older building.
"We recently enjoyed afternoon of high tea at Crossroads at The Carolina Inn. Overall, the experience was pleasant, with excellent service that really stood out. Our server, Terry, was wonderful—attentive without being intrusive, and she went above and beyond to anticipate our needs. She even surprised us with a chocolate torte to celebrate a special occasion, which was such a thoughtful touch.
The tea and food were good, though not quite what we expected at the $75 price point. The tea tray leaned heavily toward sweets, with three types of cake plus scones. While everything was nicely prepared, it would have been lovely to see a bit more variety—perhaps additional savory bites and some fresh fruit to balance the sweets alongside the two tea sandwiches provided.
We were seated in a side dining area that was attractive but lacked the ambiance one might expect for afternoon tea—no particular nod to the tradition or atmosphere of tea service.
All in all, we enjoyed our visit and especially appreciated the exceptional service, but would love to see a little more variety and ambiance to make the experience feel more special and aligned with the premium price."

"First good: Historic and charming hotel. Nice atmosphere and terrific location. Good looking building. Killer lobby cookies. Small but nice rooms.
Bad: They host a lot of events there and being an older hotel the sound proofing is awful. My most recent stay there i had an important thing very early the next day, but there was a wedding downstairs just absolutely rocking the paintings off the wall of my room. Called to see if I could get a new room and the gentleman at the desk said they were completely sold out and I had him confirm there were no other rooms available for any reason. Called my company to tell them, they called Carolina to tell them id be switching hotels and magically they were suddenly able to materialize a new room out of thin air. I appreciated the new room but I dont appreciate that they blew me off and told me no rooms under any circumstances when there clearly was one. If you cant get rest at a hotel because you get force fed someone else's thumpin' bass beats, theres no point staying there."

"My recent wedding at the Carolina Inn was everything my husband and I (and my parents!) could have dreamed of - from the start of the 1.5 year planning process to the wedding day itself. Our guests raved about not only the venue and the food but the whole experience and the incredible service they received throughout the weekend. The service my parents, husband, and I received throughout the planning process was second to none - every request we made was accommodated and every time we were on property everything was so well coordinated and set us at ease. Choosing such a beautiful and professional venue certainly made the wedding planning process easier and set us up to have the most amazing day!"
