"I love taking in the history when I visit a place. A friend told me about Missionary Ridge and I decided to visit. I needed something more low key after a full day of walking several miles! I enjoyed driving through the historic area & stopped at Bragg Reservation to learn more.
I liked the spot where you could listen to Bragg’s notes being read aloud. That added a lot to the experience. The large Illinois monument was beautifully created, and I took time to read the different plaques.
There’s also a lovely Overlook — stop and take a moment to imagine what the area must have looked like overrun with Federal and Confederate troops at the time, in contrast to what it looks like now… a somewhat quirky mountain neighborhood on the border of TN & GA.
This is a nice place to stop and learn some history where you don’t have to walk around too much — make sure to also drive through the interesting Missionary Ridge neighborhood and admire the unique homes — be sure to note the monuments, plaques, and “lawn ornaments” in the yards."
