Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Chelan Museum as a hidden gem, highlighting its extensive collection of local history and the welcoming nature of its volunteers. Many are impressed by the depth of information, particularly regarding Native American artifacts and early town businesses. While some note dimly lit corridors downstairs, the overall experience is described as informative and engaging, making it a highly recommended stop.
"It's a small museum .. Done well .. and the volunteers that man it .. are great. There's a lot of stuff in there that is fun to look at .. make sure you go down stairs to see what they have .. there are several displays ...
I can't believe that this town was still on SWITCHBOARD operators in to the 1970's. That's just a FUN fact and the photo's are great.
Then .. there's that contraption .. that used to be a HAIR CURLER .. in a beauty salon .. I am so glad I shaved my head when I did .. oh .. and that I never wanted curly hair .. being a guy .. but .. I feel sorry for the women - putting themselves thru that stuff .. I wonder how many women were electrocuted with that thing. wow.
The bottom floor is not scary. It's just a bit ... under lighted in the corridor .. but that's because they want the exhibits behind glass to be bright and inviting.
Very nice display .. I'm glad I went."

"This museum is a gem! It covers the history of the area, mostly Chelan and Manson. There are many exhibits of local Native American artifacts (baskets, beading, and other objects) and information about the people who lived in the area in times past. Some rooms show how people lived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and there are many objects from a range of early businesses in the area, from banks and movie theaters to agriculture and the Apple Cup hydro races. The gentleman at the front desk was very knowledgeable. My only regret is that we didn't discover this museum long ago."
