Reviews Summary
The Music Box Theatre is a cherished Chicago institution, lauded for its exceptional programming of art-house, foreign, and classic films, especially its renowned 70mm screenings. Visitors praise the historic ambiance, the quality of the popcorn, and the passionate staff, making it a unique cinematic experience. However, some patrons find the original seating to be uncomfortable, though recent upgrades are improving this aspect.
"There is no better place in Chicago to watch a movie than the Music Box. Classic, old school theater is a Chicago gem. Was lucky enough to catch Top Gun Maverick on the special screen they installed for the 70MM Festival. The film was even better than I remembered! I think they installed new seats last year, which is a definite upgrade. Great selection of candy, sodas, beer and wine. There is also a bar next door that connects to the theater. Anyone that loves movies must go IMMEDIATELY!!"

"Excellent theater! First time going back after many years. Everything was fine, but watching "Lurker" (last Saturday) I saw two kids, like 12 years old (I'd guess) with an adult in a R movie. To my bad luck, they were sitting right next to me. I was very annoyed."

"Don’t go to the movies, go to Music Box. Where perfectly curated screenings, new and old, often in 35mm or 70mm film, transport you to another world.
My brother is a long time member and I’m envious.. I’m hoping to drive in from Michigan a few days next month just for their film festival. I’ve seen several screenings and Q+A with the best directors you love."
