What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Preacher's Rock for its breathtaking views and rewarding, relatively short hike. While the final ascent can be challenging, most agree the panoramic vistas are well worth the effort. Some find the trailhead navigation tricky, and parking can be an issue on busy days.
"Beautiful hike, it's about 1 mile up and there is some steep parts to the trail bit well worth the effort. Anyone can make it, just go slow and take your time. It's much easier and faster coming back down. Finding the trailhead was bit tricky mapquest took us to the wrong location. You have to go to Woody gap, there's a parking lot right off the main road with a very pretty overlook."

"Great hike and totally worth the view!
My watch tracked 1.2 miles to the top. The first 2/3 is novice to moderate. The last 1/3 is moderate to hard. Our 11 & 8yo boys did it easily, our 4yo needed some patience and help. My 70yo mother stopped at 2/3 the way in, which was a good call."
Christine Adams
"Exactly one mile north to the rock from the Woody Gap entrance. Can go out and back from Woody Gap, or you can continue on the path to other sections of the Appalachia trail. It's a big rock with a beautiful view. Watch for bees. Mostly shaded along the trail, but rock is in full sun"
