What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the Museum of Russian Icons, calling it an 'absolute hidden gem' and a 'cultural wonder.' The extensive collection of over 1,000 icons, the serene atmosphere enhanced by music, and the unique "Tea Room" are frequently praised. While the gift shop might be a minor drawback for some, the overall experience is described as incredibly impressive and enriching, even for those without a religious background.
"It’s hard to explain how a museum could delight so many senses and sensibilities. This collection includes Russian, Greek, Byzantine-era, 20th century religious icons and educational components that enhance the experience.
With ancient chants and choral works playing throughout the museum, gorgeous architectural and decorative design, and a lovely room filled with samovars where you can enjoy a free cup of tea, the Icons Museum should be on your radar.
We spent hours viewing their three floors of mostly Eastern Orthodox icon paintings and objects, and you don’t have to be religious to be gobsmacked by these portrayals (although being a person of faith would enhance the experience)."

"There’s absolutely nothing I love more than happening upon a museum, and then realizing that the collectors obsession matches one of my own! This museum of iconography is not to be missed. Time and money and love have all been invested in this place, and it shows. The docents were lovely, and the museum itself is just simply stunning. Beautiful, beautiful iconography here. The gift shop leaves a little bit to be desired, but that’s not why you go to a Museum anyway!"
