Hiking Appalachian Trail through great smoky mountains, worried about weather conditions.
Hey guys, I'm starting a 4 day hike with me and my friend in a week, starting at Clingmans dome heading Northbound . I'm an experienced backpacker but I am unfamiliar with the area as I'm coming in from Michigan. I saw the weather forecast as of right now shows high temperatures…

Looking for trail recs out of Cosby, TN for my upcoming honeymoon
My fiancé and I will be honeymooning at a cabin in Cosby, TN from Aug 27-30th and are hoping to explore GSM as two people who have never been to eastern TN. We are very active people and experienced hikers looking for moderately challenging trails that can be completed in a…
Smokies Section Hike - NOBO or SOBO?
I've got a lot of extra vacation this year and finally think I have enough time to take a full 7-10 days off and do my first longer backpacking trip. I live in TN and have hiked a lot of the AT in TN/NC/VA as day hikes and 1-2 day backpacks, and I've hiked over 500 miles in the…

Hiked to Mt. Cammerer Tower (GSMNP) and camped near the cliffs.
Have they fixed the railing on the backside? This is an amazing place to catch the sunrise

"Lovely stop with waterfall and steep switchback trails. Wish I could've stayed longer"

"Over the years I’ve traveled I-40 I never realized how close I was to the Appalachian Trail until I was forced to slow down due to high gas prices. It’s a blessing and a curse I guess because if not for the high gas prices I wouldn’t have seen the greatness this country has to offer. So, thank you? By the way if someone comes across my expensive blue Contigo cup I just purchased a month ago from Walmart, know it will be missed. As soon as I’m able I’m going to buy a Coleman type canteen so I can lay it across my shoulder while walking the dogs and taking pictures. It was an expensive lesson to learn. I’ll give everyone a hint on where I left it. It’s where the trolls live, out in the open and easy to spot. Anyway, on with the review. I hiked as high on the Appalachian Trail as my ailing body would let me which wasn’t very far. I can handle level ground and some hills but this trail is not for the disabled, though it was very beautiful. The people rafting and the employees were kind and courteous which made my short stay pleasant especially after going through unpleasantness from a short time earlier. There is really no room for large RVs in this area. Mine was fine but when the canoe busses would pass it was a little tight. I found a large enough spot to park so I could walk the trail and so I can say that I was on it. I wish I had more time and energy to hike more of this trail. The dogs were loving it."

"It's a real place, it's a hidden trail that looks like stairs going up the side of the mountain from the road. There is a sign a few stairs up that talks about the trail and someone even leaves bottles of water for the hikers that travel up! You need good, comfortable hiking shoes, pack light with only the needs for hiking and maybe a good walking stick! I highly recommend bug spray!"
