What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the spectacular, unparalleled blue of Crater Lake, with Cloudcap Overlook offering breathtaking panoramic views from its high vantage point. The crisp air and expansive scenery are consistently praised, making it a worthwhile destination despite its somewhat remote location. Some note that altitude haze can obscure details like Wizard Island from this specific overlook, and wind can be a factor.
"Cloudcap Overlook offers one of the most spectacular views in Crater Lake National Park. Perched at the highest accessible point on the rim, it gives you a sweeping perspective of the lake’s deep blue waters, Wizard Island, and the surrounding cliffs. The air feels crisp and refreshing up here, and on a clear day you can see for miles. The road to Cloudcap is a bit narrow and winding, but it’s absolutely worth the drive for the incredible panorama and peaceful atmosphere. A perfect spot to take photos and soak in the beauty of Crater Lake."

"Just a beautiful day, calm water, great lookout over the entire lake. Even caught a military helicopter flyover!"

"I would consider this one of my favorite overlooks at Crater Lake because of its height. Being able to see Mount McLaughlin from the distance is awesome. Though at the same time Wizard Island is hard to see from here due to altitude haze. Either way it is worth the drive, we turned around after this overlook and went back down the rim to leave the park as the other half of the rim was closed for maintenance. If you want, this overlook is a great stopping point for visiting Crater Lake.
Additionally, it can get quite windy, and even in early August when I went, it was slightly chilly compared to the rest of the park."
