Creede, Colorado has a fire station made out of a cave.

I've been here! Creede has a really great underground mining museum. I'm pretty sure it's right next door to this fire station actually.

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the unique experience of touring a community center built into a mountain, praising its accessibility for all ages and mobility levels. The cool, consistent temperature and dog-friendly policy are also highlights. Some wish for more detailed historical timelines on technological advancements within the exhibits.

"This is a mine everyone can go to. No hard hats are needed. The town created this mine. It's not real working mine. The town of Creede put it in so even someone in a wheelchair ♿️ can take the tour. The path is smooth and easy to walk. They provide an audio tour for the tour."

"Audio tours as well as guided tours available. Decent gift shop and pictures abound everywhere to look at without going through the tour."

"What a wild building first of all, the fact that they decided to put the community center and museum in the side of the mountain is crazy and I’ve never seen anything like it. We did the audio tour which was good at giving a general overview of what it takes to get the earth to give up her treasures and I found it very interesting. They are dog friendly which is awesome, just remember to bring a sweatshirt because it’s 55 degrees underground. 10$ is a fair price for what you get, my one minor complaint (because I’m a nerd) I do wish they would have elaborated on the years that the technology they displayed progressed. Within just a few exhibits we went from hand drilling to water jet air drills and it never explained the time frame in which those tolls were used and innovated. If you do this and enjoy it you should definitely check out the last chance mine tours as well which are up the mountain a little way."
