Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Crockett Hills for its vibrant natural beauty, especially the lush green hills after rain, and abundant wildlife sightings. It's a popular spot for mountain biking with excellent singletrack trails. However, some reviewers caution about significant tick infestations on certain trails during spring, recommending caution and thorough checks.

"It is so alive here! Stuffed with birds singing, flowers blooming, bugs pollinating, garter snakes sunning themselves. Parking was easy and I enjoyed the loop trail I took. Very shaded and pleasant, classic mixed oak woodland. I did a check and did not pick up any ticks, but seems like they could thrive here based on the thickness of the understory, so make sure to do a check!"

Dan Killam

"This is a popular place to go mountain biking. While on the trail we saw plenty of happy cyclists riding down trails or around the crests of hills. You won't encounter too much elevation of you stay away from the valley trails, which means more time to enjoy the sunshine.

Other east Bay parks feature better views, but this is a nice local park with easy access and simple trails."

Bartholomew Roland

"One of the only parks in the east bay with significant legal singletrack for MTB and EMTB riders. Tree Frog on the backside is one of the best flowie trails while Middle Trail on the front side is the best and worth sessioning.

I went today on Saturday April 20th 2024 and Sugar City is infested with ticks. The grass and weeds are taller than I am and not only did I brush of about 5-6, I had three on my calves when I got home (and I was wearing riding pants) and after throwing my riding gear in the laundry we found 5 more. I have never seen so many and recommend waiting to ride there for awhile till they cut back the grass and weeds. Was like I hit a tick bomb on the trail. There were other people with dogs having tick issues too.

The park should post something about this in my opinion as I have never seen anything like it. I've never had issues with ticks like this anywhere including at Crockett but recommend riding in seasons other than Spring after heavy rains.
