Anyone have experience fishing in / near Crystal River, FL?
I am headed there Labor Day weekend to celebrate my 50th birthday with the family. I have a 20' Center Console I am bringing with me. I usually fish out of Stuart, FL and troll. I am curious what I can look out for or if anyone has any tips / websites I can check out for fishing…

Going to Crystal River this weekend what should we check out?
We are staying at the Plantation at Crystal River, going on an airboat tour on Sunday but otherwise we're looking for fun stuff to do (family of four). There are some state parks around and possibly some "downtown Crystal River" shops to check out. I'd appreciate…

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Fort Island Gulf Beach offers a natural, free coastal experience with opportunities for fishing and observing marine life like hermit crabs. While some visitors note seaweed and brown water, others appreciate the ample parking and picnic facilities. It's a relaxed spot, particularly good for families with young children or those seeking a less commercialized beach day.
"Nice beach on the gulf. We were here on a rainy day so we only got to enjoy it for a short time. The water was warm but did cool you off. There are lots of fish and hermit crabs around. It is a nice spot to explore and cool off. It wasn't that busy when we stopped in. The water isn't to deep and it is a great place for kids."

"I couldn't really rate this beach as much, as we've traveled recently to the Emerald Coast. But what I've heard from locals is that this beach used to be much cleaner, but because of the hurricanes, it has not been cleaned out yet. The boardwalk is currently not available. This beach would be great for fishing 🎣 for now."

This beach was the closest to us so we decided to check it out for the day. We only stayed around 30-40 minutes though.
+ sand, water rocks
- seaweed strung all around in clumps, luckily was dried up and didn’t smell; water is brown/dirty green, like canal water after about 5 feet in or so; swim area buoyed off, not such a big deal but with the rest of the unaesthetic sights just all around blah; beach area spans only a short ways when compared to other ‘beaches’ I’ve been to; no rinse off station.
I believe there may be another beach area further down, where the boat ramp is but I didn’t go down there to see. There is a cool little crab area as seen in the videos I posted.
All in all we left due to the lack of the sand/sun beach vibe we were wanting. This was dull, brown and lacked the ocean luster we wanted.
I would not return to this beach, even if it were the last option, I would find something different to do."
