Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve West Tract for its peaceful, natural setting, abundant wildlife, and free primitive camping. The wildflower displays in October and sunset views are highlights. However, some find trails brushy and prickly, and the lack of potable water and prevalence of insects require careful preparation.

"Nice gravel road ride. Plenty of birds and Florida flora. Quiet and peaceful"

Rose Law

"October is a great wildflower month and while many have starting to peter-out, there was plenty to see. I stuck to the hard packed campground road and stayed high and dry. Tried one of the spurs to the hiking trails on the way back and found it still had some flooded parts, but was dry enough beside the trail to walk around those spots.

Saw a gopher tortoise, barred owl, lots of song birds, 4 hefty deer, and some bugs."

Dusty R

"For free camping this is a nice campground. Fire pits, picnic tables, pavilions for rainy days. Beautiful sunsets towards a field with cows and a hee haw donkey! There is a portalet , no showers. Pack in and pack out. This part of SWFWM, and one of the nicest ones. Friendly camp hosts, lots of trails to hike too. Right by the Withlachatoochie river. State Park is right there. Secure, must make online reservations and it is locked with a code they change regularly. There is also backpack camping as well. A good place for a relaxing getaway."
