What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Pirate Cove Viewpoint as a hidden gem with absolutely stunning, unobstructed coastal views and frequent wildlife sightings. The easy access and peaceful atmosphere are major draws. However, the lack of guardrails on steep, dangerous cliff edges is a significant safety concern that requires extreme caution, especially with children and pets.
"Absolute hidden gem! Must see at least once in your life. One draw back, there are no guardrails! Extremely dangerous edges so hold onto very young kids or adventurous ones that like to take off. Even pets on a leash. It’s stunning views and never knowing what you’re going to see makes it worth visiting each time you’re in the area. Over the last 3 visits we’ve seen a whale, bald eagle swoop down for fish (and eat it on the cliff side, sea lions, pelicans, gorgeous sunset, multiple birds, etc. Trust the Google map to get you here. You do drive through a narrow, neighborhood, road."

"I recently had the chance to do a photoshoot at the scenic viewpoint near Depot Bay, right by Pirate Cove. As a wedding and engagement photographer based in Portland, Oregon, I’m always looking for unique and beautiful locations to shoot, and this spot didn’t disappoint. The cliffs, rocky shores, and waves crashing against the rocks created a stunning backdrop that made every shot feel special. What I really appreciated about this place was how easy it is to get to—there’s no need to trek through sand, and parking is right nearby.
Since it’s tucked away from the main road, it’s a hidden gem, offering a peaceful atmosphere without the usual crowds. I was able to capture gorgeous views of Depot Bay, the bridge, and, from another angle, the coastline with the Worldmark hotel in the background. I love finding these kinds of places for my shoots, not just for the couples I work with, but also to share with other photographers who are as passionate about capturing these moments as I am. I hope this spot helps inspire others to explore the beauty Oregon has to offer."
