"I went in today to have an abstract for a name change signed and stamped. Because of some incorrect information, I was coming to this building after having parked down by the vital records building. I had walked for 10 minutes from where my car was parked, and had my 6 month old son in my arms. When I went through security, they asked if I had a pocket knife in my bag. I had forgotten to take it out, but assumed they could just hold it for me and the security desk until I was ready to exit. This same thing had happened at the Dallas County Courthouse when I was there attending an adoption hearing, yet they were able to return my pocket knife with no issue.
When I asked for it back, they told me it had been confiscated and would not be returned to me. It was an $80 knife and I wish they would have had a sign posted or explained to me that if I gave it to them they would not be able to give it back. Very confusing situation, sharing so others don’t run into the same issue."
