What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Depot Theater is praised for its unique historic venue and diverse, high-quality productions, often exceeding expectations. However, concerns have been raised about the pricing of the dinner theater option, including adult pricing for children and high beverage costs, as well as the perceived value of the food itself.
"Dear Depot Theater, You asked for feed back, so as to know how to better improve the experience, so, I am giving you a 1 star review, and here are the reasons why. Your tickets are $55 for dinner/show, or $30 for just the show, which makes the dinner part $25. I brought my 5yr old to the dinner/theater, and was charged the same price for the ticket as an adult. Obviously a 5yo won't eat the same amount as an adult. You should offer a child's ticket to these plays. Then we were charged $30 for a bottle of wine that costs $5-7 at the liquor store. And as for the food, if you are going to charge $25 for a plate of food, then it needs to be food worthy of that price. I'm sorry, but lasagna and green beans are not worth that price. And then instead of being served the chocolate cake with cherry filling and whipped cream, that was on the menu, instead, we were served red velvet cake with butter frosting. Very disappointing. And one last thing, you need to have ratings on the plays you are performing, I would NOT have brought my daughter, nor would I and my husband have attended, had we known the play had quite a bit of sexual enuendos."

"We got lucky and visited when the maintenance supervisor aka historian was there. The craftsmanship of the building is beautiful. Apparently very good dogs are allowed, so that's a bonus"

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
If you decide to attend, consider the show-only ticket option to manage costs, especially if your child has a smaller appetite. While the venue itself is a unique experience, the value proposition for families with young children, particularly regarding the dinner component and lack of child-specific pricing, might be a point of consideration.
💰 Budget Travelers
If you choose the dinner theater option, be aware that the value of the meal for the price has been a point of contention for some patrons. It might be more economical to dine at a less expensive establishment before or after the show, or to simply enjoy the performance itself.
💖 Couples and Date Nights
While the dinner component can be pricey, the quality of the productions and the overall atmosphere often make it a worthwhile splurge for a special occasion. Consider booking in advance, especially for weekend performances, to secure the best seats and ensure a seamless experience.

The Historic Depot Theater Experience
Beyond the historical charm, the theater is known for its diverse seasonal productions. From musicals featuring top-notch musicians to plays that are often lauded as being better than their movie counterparts, the Depot Theater aims to provide high-quality entertainment. The stage sets are consistently praised for their accuracy and effectiveness in bringing the story to life, and the actors are carefully chosen for their roles, contributing to the overall success of each show.
However, potential visitors should be aware of certain aspects. The dinner theater pricing can be substantial, with adult rates applied to children and significant markups on beverages like wine. Additionally, play content can vary, with some productions containing mature themes or sexual innuendos that might not be suitable for all audiences, particularly families with young children. It's advisable to research specific show ratings before booking.
Navigating Dinner Theater at the Depot
When considering the dinner option, it's important to manage expectations regarding the food quality and pricing. While the concept is appealing, some reviews suggest that the cost of the meal, particularly for dishes like lasagna and green beans, may not align with the perceived value. Similarly, beverage prices, especially for wine, are considerably higher than standard retail. This has led some patrons to suggest that the show-only ticket might be a more budget-friendly choice for those prioritizing the theatrical experience.
For those who do opt for the dinner, it's worth noting that menu specifics can change, and substitutions may occur. It's always a good idea to inquire about the menu in advance if you have specific dietary needs or preferences. Despite these considerations, the overall experience of dining and then enjoying a live performance in a unique historic setting remains a key attraction for many visitors.
