What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors appreciate the peaceful nature of the Canal Lands Park Dover Dam Towpath Trail, enjoying the riverfront scenery and opportunities for wildlife spotting. The spacious parking and historical markers are also noted positives. However, some find the trail monotonous, and the prevalence of mosquitoes and muddy conditions after rain can detract from the experience.
"Very neat towpath. Pretty easy to navigate. Definitely wear boots if it has rained previously because the trail does get muddy. Nice historical plaques to read in some spots."
Amber
"Very nice walking trails and bike trails! Very peaceful walking down by the river. There are a few benches along the path in case you would like to take a break, maybe one every mile. I just did the 6 mile walk from route 82 to route 800, so not sure how the rest of the trail is. Pretty cool scenery....you have the river on your left, and swampland and black water on your right. Saw a deer and many squirrels. Unfortunately, the mosquitoes were horrendous! It was like walking through a cloud of them almost the entire trail. So don't forget your bug spray if you come out this way for some relaxation. Very peaceful place!"

"A good stop along the towpath trail, much better than the state route 800 trailhead.
The parking is spacious and nice, and has a small port-a-potty for restrooms."

These offer insights into the history of the canal and the surrounding landscape, adding an educational element to your outing. While the trail offers a peaceful escape, some reviewers note that it can feel a bit monotonous at times, with the most engaging scenery occurring when the trail wanders close enough to the water to truly appreciate it.
