What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center for its free admission and rich historical content, particularly its in-depth look at the Edmund Fitzgerald and the iconic Aerial Lift Bridge. The stunning views of Lake Superior and the active shipping channel are a major draw, complemented by friendly staff and a well-curated gift shop. While some find the exhibits more focused on history than interactive elements, the overall experience is highly recommended for anyone interested in Great Lakes maritime heritage.
"Beautiful museum. It was well worth the trip. A Great Lakes experience. Laid out in great detail and well maintained. It was an absolute pleasure and to cap it off a ship was entering the harbor so it allowed for the bridge to rise and the ship to pass. Children waved to the crew onboard and the crew responded equally. A beautiful day with amazing weather. A must see. Plan your trip around one of the ships entering and you will love it"
David Harris
"In all fairness I was more entranced by the view of the sailboats on the water... in the rainstorm. Perfect views through huge windows ... and the gift shop cashier was so helpful and warm. Definitely recommend!"

"First of all it is free! But I would have gladly paid a fee for this museum though. Great history of the area and of the legendary SS Edmund Fitzgerald. Some neat videos to watch in there as well. It is right next to the canal and the unique Aerial Lift Bridge, so it includes a history on that as well as some cool schematics of that engineering feat. Lots of great models of boats and ships and even actual engines of a ship. For fun you can even act like a captain of a ship at the helm. Beautiful photography as well. Before you leave and check out the canal with its 2 lighthouses as well as the aerial bridge, you have to stop by the gift shop. Prices are not outrageous and the lady that works there is one of the nicest people I have met. She even showed me the map that she puts pins in to note where people have come from to visit...as far as Africa and New Zealand! A unique experience."
