Planning a trip from Central WI to the tip of Copper Country in June - what is on my must see/do list?
Plan of attack: enter UP via Hwy 45. Spend a day or two in Houghton. Take Hwy 26 along the lake to Copper Harbor. Spend 2-3 days up there. Head home through Bete Grise/Gay, maybe L’Anse. I’m looking for outdoor, historical, nature things. I plan on doing rock/agate picking at…
Houghton Trip
Headed up to Houghton/Hancock in a few weeks. The first time to the UP for a majority of people in our group. We’ve done research on a few nearby sights (porcupine mtns, copper harbor) but would love to hear some other recommendations, along with what we can expect weather wise?

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Bete Grise Beach is lauded for its stunning, soft sandy shores and breathtaking Lake Superior views, offering a serene escape. However, visitors should be prepared for a significant presence of biting flies, particularly in summer, which can impact the overall experience. Basic amenities are available, and parking is roadside.
"Bete Gris is beautiful, secluded beach with pristine sands but should be called Mouches Piquantes. We thought biting fly season would be done by the end of July. We tried to get the sands to sing but it was too hard with the annoying flies and the water lapping at the shores made it hard to hear. My 10 year old son thought it was called sinking sands. Some of the sand was crusty. When walked on, you could see small holes emerge around your feet. There is a porta-potty and changing room across the road from the beach. I did find some cool spotted stones that might be Petoskey stones. The water was cold and clear. We didn’t stay long as the flies were unwelcoming."

"This place was packed with people and no wonders! Beautiful pristine beach. Just one restroom at the site. Parking along the road."

"This is a really beautiful sand beach. The water is shallow a long way out, and there are some nice waves. There is no parking lot, you just pull your car over on the side of the road. There are a changing room and restroom, and picnic tables."
