"Swarmed by Mosquitoes – Avoid Doane Rock Picnic Area
A ranger from the Visitor Center recommended we eat lunch here, but we were immediately swarmed by mosquitoes — over 30+ bites each within seconds. We tried multiple pavilions, all worse than the last. Ran back to the car and they aggressively and relentlessly followed us. Even saw hikers at the trails nearby turning back swatting themselves. No warning signs anywhere.
We told a ranger at Nauset Light Beach. I suggested he call or communicate with the team at the Visitors Center to stop suggesting picnicing at Doane Rock. He shrugged and couldn’t care less. Honestly, they need to close the section off.
Skip the picnic area and eat at the beach instead — zero mosquitoes there. Poorly managed, no signage, and the rangers showed zero care. Sending visitors into those conditions is irresponsible to say the least."
