Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Red Maple Swamp Trail for its serene beauty, well-maintained boardwalk, and family-friendly nature. It's a peaceful escape offering lovely views, especially when combined with the Fort Hill Trail. However, parking is extremely limited, and the trail can get muddy and buggy, particularly after rain or in peak summer.
"We visited on a Sunday afternoon in mid-June 2025.
The trail head doesn't have very many parking spots along the side of the road. We weren't sure if we could park down by the water where the boat launch was so we stuck closer to the trail head.
There are pit toilets here and the trail forks. We decided to go right on the board walk and go around and tie it into the Fort Hill Trail. Both together isn't very long and at a leisurely stroll while taking photos as well it took us about 1 hr.
There was also a small parking lot at the Fort Hill Trail Head and at the Fort Hill Overlook.
The trail was relatively short and had a lot of different elements and changing scenery so it kept our ADHD youngest one entertained with out much complaints. Great for beginners.
Overall we'd probably do this again if we were in the area. It was short and interesting. There are a lot of other trails we could do but this one was also close to the salt pond visitor center."

"Utter silence in nature! So peaceful. Itis a great walk, just over a mile. I suspect that it may be buggy in the gear of summer dues to standing swampy water. We loved it in early spring though and look forward to returning."

"Well maintained trails and nice boardwalk. We visited after a rainstorm and it was quite stunning, but it is a very busy trail!! We walked on the edge of the salt March and had to turn back due to knee high water. It can be quite muddy so don't wear your favorite sneakers! Modern facilities near Hemenway Landing. No picnic area."
