Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the stunning natural beauty of Echo Lake and its surrounding trails, particularly the breathtaking views and the opportunity for both easy strolls and challenging hikes. The sunset views are frequently highlighted as a must-see. However, some find lake access limited and the trails can be rocky or snowy depending on the season.
"We got here at 3pm on a Sunday, parking was available as many folks were leaving for the day...that said, there weren't a ton of open spots. I can only imagine how tough parking might be on a Saturday. Beautiful location you can tent kayaks and even small motor boats, including a taxi service to take you to the other side of the lake or a tour of the lake. Pathways all seem dog friendly. The chalet store has all the basics for fishing, food, clothes, and ice cream!! We stayed only an hour and a half, but plan to stay longer on our next visit!"

"Lake Aloha with snow on it is just absolutely gorgeous.
I read there was snow before I went, but there was a lot more snow than I imagined, which made the hike much slower.
Please don’t camp close to other backpackers if you can help it. I was pretty off trail, across a river, around the bend and some folks saw me and camped like 20 feet away after I waved. I was the only person camping lake Susie when they came."

"Beautiful place to hike. We came up for the day from the Sacramento area. Google maps said to take Echo Drive off of highway 50 at Echo Summit. But that's a narrow, partially covered with dirt, one-lane road. Before you get to that, there is a turn off to the sno park on Johnson Pass Road. Take that instead. It's shorter too. We turned around and went back to it. Then turn left at the sno park on Echo Lakes Road. There were a lot of cars but we were able to find a spot. We were there on a Friday in August, late morning. You walk down the hill to the lake. We walked about 2 miles out along the trail until we could see the upper lake and then came back. It took us about 3 hours, but we were walking slowly and taking pictures. It was mostly level with some up and down. There are great lake views from the trail, but I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 for very limited lake access. I kept hoping the trail would go down by the water, but it didn't. It is steep and rocky between the trail and the water. There were also a lot of "boat in" cabins along the edge of the water. The only real lake access is right at the small marina. There wasn't a swim beach, but I waded a little by one of the docks. The water was very cold! It is more of a boating lake. There were some people with paddle boards and kayaks. The views were gorgeous though and we would go here again! I'd come earlier and do a day hike to Lake Aloha."
