The engaging exhibits and friendly staff make it a worthwhile stop for history buffs and families alike. Some note it's a decent size for a museum, offering a good amount of knowledge in a manageable visit.
"A lot of great information on the history of the battles on the great lakes. It was pretty cool that this building used to be a power station and they left one of the main generators in there for you to view as well. Decent size for a museum but it's just what you would think of any museum, great knowledge of history. I can definitely say I did not know hardly anything about the naval battles until I visited here, but now I do."

"This museum is 1 of the coolest museums I have ever been to. If you are ever in Erie and want to learn about naval ships, Lake Erie, and the War of 1812? You can go no further. There is so much information about it and how the city of Erie came to be. It amazed me in the view at the back of the museum of the USS Niagara. The back of the museum has a dissection of the frigates during the time of 1812 inside and out. I haven't gone to the 2nd floor, but I have yet to go back and finish. It's worth going back."

"Excellent history for America’s Navy in the Great Lakes from the War of 1812 to the transition to the Coast Guard working with Canada to control our border. Do not miss the outstanding art work and photos showing the US Coast Guard on the mezzanine.
In addition to the historic displays, also excellent exhibits on how sailing ships determined depth and speed."
