What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Estes Park is lauded for its stunning natural beauty, particularly its proximity to Rocky Mountain National Park, offering incredible scenic drives and wildlife viewing opportunities. Visitors appreciate the charming downtown area with its shops and restaurants, and the historic Stanley Hotel adds a unique appeal. However, some find the town overly tourist-centric with similar souvenir shops, and dining options can be limited or close early.
"Very tourist-centric. If that’s what you want, you’re in the right place. The shops all have similar to the same types of souvenirs. There are several candy and sweet shops. The food is okay, I wasn’t too impressed with options but I don’t like heavy, greasy pub-type foods which is fairly prevalent here. The other stuff you can find is fine. The best place was Estes Pho Thai for me, which may tell you the types of foods I tend to lean towards. I don’t know about peak tourist season since we are here past it in October, but everything closes early or has weird open days. With the days shortening it encourages you to go home but it’s also easy to feel like you’re in a ghost town. It’s right off of Rocky Mountain National Park, which is what’s worth it. All the hiking trails and scenic views are amazing. The buildings are pretty old and there’s lots of history both on park property, in Estes Park proper, and on the outskirts - so keep that in mind for the type of affordable stays you may look for. We have a small lodging off the road near a babbling brook which makes for a relaxing vibe. It is likely you’ll see mule deer and elk in town or around it, as well. We saw some by Safeway and on the golf course."

"A place you have to see with your own eyes! Estes Park is absolutely beautiful — especially with the fall colors all around. We explored the downtown area, stopped by the informative Visitor Center (they have all the info you need!), shopped in local stores, and enjoyed some coffee to warm up. Everything was clean and well kept.
Our kids loved the scenic walk and had so much fun playing the large xylophones and flower-shaped instruments at George Hix Riverside Plaza.
We probably only did 1% of what this place offers, but every minute was worth it. Can’t wait to come back and explore more!"

"Great park! Love it! Plan ahead, bring lots of water, use the restroom before you leave, and be prepared to hike! My favorite parts were the waterfalls and an overlook way up high where there was still snow in June! The clear sky and moon was beautiful! If you do that, make sure you dress warmly because it feels as cold as winter (seriously with snow!)"
