What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the library's stunning architecture and its role as a valuable resource. While many appreciate the grandeur and the wealth of books, some reviews note that the building can sometimes feel like a temporary shelter for the homeless, impacting the atmosphere for those seeking quiet study.
"This is a tricky review to leave. The library is a beautiful building and a great resource for the city. On the Sunday I visited however, it seemed to have a second role as a homeless shelter. I'm not exaggerating when I say having arrived 3 minutes after it opened its doors every single one of the more secluded study areas had been occupied by someone either homeless or living out of their car, and after a few hours I'd say about 80% of the people in there were not there for books, work or study. It begs the question, is there nowhere more suitable for them to get shelter and a place to sit down in comfort? I've lived in cities with much bigger problems regarding people in need of shelter, but I've never seen them filling up a library before."

"Spacious. Free to the public. There are a lot of enjoyable books here for all ages to read. Restrooms upstairs and on the main floor, as well as computers, too. Lots of free events and learning materials. There is also an items check-out system here, too. Plenty of free, off-the-street parking."
