Reviews Summary
Reviews for the Park County Courthouse in Fairplay are divided. Some visitors commend the court clerks for their helpfulness and judges for their patience and fairness. Conversely, others have reported negative experiences with law enforcement and judicial decisions, citing concerns about bias and the legal process.
"We had a small case in Park County Court. The court clerks were very helpful. The judge Brian Green was very patient and fair. He spent almost two hours listening to both sides before he made his decision."

"It is not a big court, but I didn't feel intimidated or scared. The whole atmosphere was friendly. The clerks are very helpful and judge Green is outstanding: very patient with people, yet fair and goes by the letter of the law."

"Having to deal with Park County Courts is truly an experience I wouldn’t wish on anyone. Judge Amanda Hunter issued a decision that suggests she didn’t even read the motion. She can’t be that busy in a tiny county. So it’s safe to assume that Park County hasn’t changed since an experience I had there in 1997.
My dad had a house in Bailey and was out of town, so I convinced a bunch of my friends to drive from up from Denver. I was a student at Denver’s East High School, and being an inner city public school, my friends were well represented racially.
Long story short, the Park County sheriff and officers descended on this party like nothing we had ever seen before.
You would have thought that we were all on the run for mass murdering 25 people. And surprise, surprise, they really hounded the non-white people. It was embarrassing on so many levels how racist, bigoted, and backward these cops were.
We can laugh about this now, but that night was scary & eye-opening to all of us. I was so traumatized by one cop in particular telling me I was staring down a long jail sentence for having a party with kids smoking weed. I tried to explain that everyone was spending the night, so no one would be driving, but that didn’t seem to appease him.
I’m pretty sure the cops from that night represent most of the people in charge in this county. They promoted mass incarceration then, and apparently now they profit off this as someone told me the FairPlay jail is now for-profit. Profits increase as you jail more people.
Just avoid this county. The judges, sheriffs, politicians, and most residents aren’t known for being open-minded or reform-minded."
