How much better is Yosemite Valley compared to the area at the south entrance?

"The California Tunnel Tree in Yosemite’s Mariposa Grove is a charming piece of living history—a giant sequoia with a walk-through tunnel carved in 1895 originally for horse-drawn stagecoaches. It’s the last living giant sequoia tunnel tree as per literature.
Just make sure you reach there in the first shuttle if possible to have enough photo ops as it may be crowded afterward."

"Bucket List item checked! Worth the hike for our family, something we’ve wanted to do forever. Wonderful experience for everyone there, all the other hikers were so stoked to be there too!
Long hike if you’re not prepared but worth it if you are, it be aware it’s uphill the whole way to the tree. We saw folks bonking and losing it on the way up. Bring water, good walking gear, a snack, and some gumption and you’ll nail it."

"About a 30min hike from the shuttle stop, mildly uphill and mostly in the shade (unless it is high noon when the shade is partial). The tree itself is worth the sight. Can expect a line of photo takers posing at the tree."
