Planning Your Visit

Timing is Key for a Smooth Visit

The Folsom History Museum is a gem, but it's small! Visiting during off-peak hours, like weekday mornings or late afternoons, can offer a more intimate experience. Weekends can get busier, especially if there are special exhibits or events. Check their website for any special programming that might impact crowds or add to your visit.

Navigating the Exhibits

While the museum is compact, some exhibits are placed lower, which can be a challenge for reading placards, especially for shorter visitors or those with mobility issues. Consider visiting with a guide or asking staff for assistance if you want to ensure you catch all the details. The staff are often praised for their knowledge and enthusiasm.

Folsom History Museum Fieldtrip www.folsomhistory.org In addition to our time in the History Museum, we took a guided walk through the former Sacramento Valley Railroad yards to The Square, where we saw a live blacksmith demonstration and participated in hands-on gold panning. #homeschooling #learningthroughplay #fieldtrip

Ya- Ya

"This museum is on Sutter St. Which is the main street of Historic Folsom. You come upon it about one short block from the tram station. It's easy to miss because it's tucked back from the sidewalk and looks like another storefront.

This is a great starting point for anyone visiting to see this gold mining town because you learn about how it became a gold mining town, why it was named Folsom, and how it has fared as a city right up to present time.

It is very small . The exhibits are very interesting and well presented, and some are interactuve. The difficulty I had, and a contributing factor to my rating, was the difficulty in reading the exhibit placards because so many were down low.

The museum shop is small but nice with some interesting objects.

Cost is $9 and $8 for seniors.

The second factor for the rating was the loud personal conversation that the museum employee had that lasted a good part of my visit. Since the space was small, the conversation was distracting. But, highly recommend going."
