Russian River Weekend Parking
I drove by Steelhead Beach last Saturday (mid July) right before 10 am, and the parking lot was already full. If someone wanted to park at Steelhead, Johnson, Sunset, or any of the beaches, would they need to arrive before 8 or 9 am on the weekends? Apart from proximity to…
Would an inflatable raft be OK for floating the Russian River over Labor Day weekend?
As opposed to a smaller pool float or a kayak/canoe. I've got a 6-person inflatable raft I was thinking about using, but I'm trying to be mindful of how crowded the river's likely to be on a holiday weekend, and also water level this time of year.
Arrive early for shade ☀️
Natural shade is scarce. Get to the park early to secure a good spot on the beach.
Embrace the 'figure it out' vibe

The park offers clean facilities and ample parking, making it a convenient spot for a day trip. However, be prepared for limited natural shade and potentially crowded conditions on busy days.

"What an amazing place to come and get cooled off! Super busy, but there’s room for everyone, just be kind and thoughtful to the other people there🤙"

"Went tubing down the river with some friends over the weekend. What a great day! Bring a floating/waterproof bag for snacks and drinks (and sunscreen!) and just enjoy.
The time estimate (4.5h) is accurate, even though on the map the distance looks short.
Toward Sunset beach there's a bridge where people were swinging and jumping in the water, and the jumpers and floaters were all having fun as one big group. Being on the river there weren't many phones out, just a nice time among strangers.
Highly recommend for a day trip in sunny weather. 🌞"
