"🚂 Take a step back in time at the Fort Payne Depot Museum!
This stunning 1891 pink sandstone depot, built in the Richardson Romanesque style, once served passengers of the Alabama Great Southern Railroad until 1970. Today, it’s filled with rich local history — from railroad memorabilia and handcrafted 1913 dioramas to Native American artifacts and more.
But the real hidden gem? A charming children’s area tucked inside a reversed caboose! 🎨🚂 Hand-painted murals and a mini train make it the perfect spot for little explorers.
Our little had the best time learning, climbing, and discovering — and the best part? Admission is FREE (donations welcomed)!
A must-visit for families, history buffs, and anyone who loves a good local treasure."

"Beautiful building packed full of information and artifacts from the area's history, railroad and otherwise.
We were stopping by on a quick stop on a road trip. The employee working was very sweet and extremely knowledgeable. Cool cameras, a model train set up, clothing, etc.
No photos allowed inside, a gift shop, and it's free to enter with a donation being appreciated."

"The Fort Payne Depot Museum is a wonderful collection of local history and memorabilia. The building is great and very well preserved. There are at least three collections here. One on the indigenous people, another on the railroad depot and a third on local military veterans. The museum is packed full of wonderful artifacts and the staff are friendly and super knowledgeable. A great spot to visit."
