What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise DJ Wilcox Preserve for its peaceful "Old Florida" atmosphere, well-marked trails, and scenic observation tower. It's a great spot for nature walks, photography, and enjoying the local ecosystem. However, be prepared for mosquitoes and potentially wet trail sections after rain.
"Really nice 1 mile trail that was easy to follow and well marked too, with a cool observation tower along the way. You start by crossing a long, well kept bridge which sets the vibe. Lots of shade throughout the area but definitely bring bug spray because we ran into quite a few mosquitoes."

"I find this trail very healing. If your heart has been bothering you, this is the trail for you to walk. There are stops all along the way, benches to sit on, alone or with a friend completely enjoyable.
The trail is quite windy so it makes it kind of mysterious any person that loves trailing trees, nature water life will enjoy this trail. Itβs not very long however, there are places to sit if you would like to have a picnic.
Itβs dog friendly. I would say that a wheelchair could definitely push down the walkway. If it was a nice big wheelchair it could do the path, but there are some places that get a little bumpy.
Have a great day β€οΈππβ¨π¦ππππππ½"

"This spot is a gem for two types of walks.
1) A somewhat short (1-mile) but beautiful trail with 14 interpretive stops and a lookout tower. This one is perfect for slower walkers and talkers with plenty of photo ops. You'll see water, birds, oak hammocks, a wide variety of plants and grasses. Wear bug spray on muggy, low-wind days and be prepared to walk along the sides or get wet in low spots after a rain.
2) You can add length and speed if you didn't get enough from your walk by taking the dirt road down to the river and hanging left. Here you can add mileage and enjoy a great view of the Indian River facing east.
This preserve is right off of Old Dixie Highway which is a drive worth taking all the way from the North Causeway in Fort Pierce all the way to Highland St. In Vero . It reminds me of "Old Florida" which is fast disappearing.
Enjoy!"
