Embrace the Rustic Charm

Elizabeth Furnace offers a truly rustic camping experience, perfect for those seeking a getaway from modern amenities. Expect vault toilets and limited potable water, especially before the main season. It's a peaceful escape, but come prepared for pitch-black nights and potentially damp, cold conditions in cooler months.

Trail Preparedness is Key

While the Pig Iron Trail to the Elizabeth Furnace ruins is short, parts can be rough for casual walking. Bring sturdy footwear and be aware of potential bugs, especially in warmer months. No cell service means downloading offline maps is a smart move for navigation.

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the gorgeous, rustic camping experience at Elizabeth Furnace, highlighting the private sites, proximity to Passage Creek, and incredibly low prices. While some infrastructure needs repair, the natural beauty, hiking trails, and peaceful atmosphere make it a highly recommended spot for nature lovers seeking an affordable escape. The lack of cell service is a noted drawback for some, but a plus for those wanting to disconnect.

"Absolutely gorgeous park and campground. Interesting walking trails from beginner on up. Lots of places to picnic. Some infrastructure is damaged and needs repair, but I was only in a small section of a very large recreation area. The pig iron trail has the Elizabeth Furnace ruins and plenty of descriptive markers on the trail and it’s only a quarter mile long but some of the trail is rough for casual walking so be prepared. No cell service, but Google maps works offline, so it was easy to navigate out when done hiking. 4 stars for the damaged/collapsed infrastructure but otherwise recommend!"

"Not everyone would agree with my five star rating if they’re looking for a Glamping location. My wife and I love the rustic camping experience. Prior to season opening only vault toilets are available and potable water faucets. What we loved about it was the large private campsite with paved pad, surrounded by trees and backing up to Passage Creek, stocked with trout. And only 10 bucks a night! This was the perfect camping getaway for us and also because it was only an hour and 15 minutes away from our home."

"10/25/2024: Leaves have already fallen. So it’s pretty much the end of fall here. Parking lot across the bridge is quite large. It would be a very nice place for hiking, camping, fishing (trout stocked Passage Creek runs through here) and picnicking for everyone at this area. But don’t forget to spray bug repellent as there are lots of bugs."
