Visitors appreciate the affordable rentals, well-maintained trails, and educational nature center, making it ideal for families and nature enthusiasts. Some minor drawbacks include the prohibition of swimming and the occasional spiderwebs on trails.
"This is a gem of a park!!!!
There is a lot to do here, family or solo, this park caters to all.
There are accessible areas for wheelchair and assisted mobility persons. If you are in a wheelchair, you'll have to work a little bit though, it's not paved.
On the water, there are no lifeguards and signs up for no wading or swimming.
The brochures have a lot of great information as well as educational challenges for tree and bird identification. I found 3/4 of the trees on one trail! I didn't see any woodpeckers but heard them quite clearly.
The trails are well marked and maintained. The woods are beautiful. If you are on a trail not traveled yet, expect web in the face. The spiders are not very big, but it's still an unfortunate feeling not knowing if the spider stayed on its web or will soon be crawling across your face. This is part of nature and all creatures great and small have their reason for being and a right to be there.
There are lots of bird houses for encouraging identification and bat houses -they eat lots of bugs and important to our ecosystem.
Although, in the video, as beautiful as this park is, people suck everywhere and still can't clean up after themselves.
One of the many great things about this park is the check in for safety. There is a list to put your name on, just in case. One never knows when a slip and fall could happen, this way, you won't be out there alone for long. A word of note - cell phone signals are spotty, so definitely get your name registered if you plan on being out by yourself.
At the top of the park (the entrance) there is a great addition for bicycles, equipped with manual air pump!!
If you are a "seek app" adventurist, this is a super place to gain badges and capitalize on seasonal challenges. I was able to identify an abundance of new finds when the signal was adequate.
The boat rental and day pass prices are reasonable as well as the season pass price.
With a park like this, one has very little excuse not to get out and get moving, breathe in fresh air and learn about nature."

"Motts Reservoir is hands-down one of the best hidden gems in Fredericksburg. Just a few minutes from downtown, but it feels like you’re way out in the woods. The reservoir is calm, quiet, and perfect for kayaking, canoeing, or just hanging out by the water. Rentals are cheap and super easy — you just pay, grab a paddle, and go.
The hiking trails are beautiful too — shaded, peaceful, and you’ll spot plenty of wildlife along the way. It’s also a great place to fish, picnic, or just escape the city for a few hours. Everything is well kept, and the staff are friendly and helpful.
If you’re looking for a spot to relax, get some fresh air, or enjoy the outdoors without a long drive, Motts Reservoir is the place. Definitely a 5-star experience every time I go!"
