What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Guests consistently praise The Garden City Hotel for its exceptional staff, who provide attentive and personalized service, making stays memorable. The historic charm and refined dining options, particularly the Red Salt Room, are also frequently highlighted as positives. However, some visitors find the rooms to be basic for the price, with dated design elements and less-than-ideal lighting.
"I want to say that we come here often and every time we have a great time! I used to be a hotel manager for 20 years and I look for little things. We checked in on Friday the 14th we were checked in by Anthony who worked at the front desk. He did with any great employee would do and he up sold our room to the penthouse With the two beds and two bathroom bathrooms and a fireplace! We love the room by the way I will definitely get the room the next time we come! As a former manager, I know how important it is for our employees up sell our rooms! Lucas is also an amazing guy who saw us walking in and took our stuff up there for us. He also said that if we need anything during our state to let him know that he’s here during the certain hours and that he would take care of anything we needed. Even when we were leaving for the day to go to either dinner or out shopping, he would see us, and he would remember our names and shake our hands. He would also welcome us back to the hotel as did the other staff when we returned! The service here is top-notch and is worth every penny. The restaurant as well I have to mention that the food is always amazing as well! I love the Spanish octopus and the Cobb salad. ! Great job to the staff Are the Garden city hotel!"

"We stayed here recently for a wedding, and like so many things on Long Island, this hotel thinks it's much fancier than it actually is. We paid over $350 a night for a room that, in many ways, was less comfortable and functional than basic Holiday Inn rooms.
The rooms are very basic, with poorly thought through design elements that people thought were premium in the 90's. The beds were not premium at all, very basic and not really comfortable. The rest of the furniture looks like every other budget hotel room these days. The bathroom has a shelf instead of a counter, which in our room was poorly mounted, causing toiletries to leap to their demise if you closed the door too quickly.
I have to specifically call out the lighting in the rooms, which is absolutely atrocious. Every fixture has a bulb with very cold/blue color temperature, which makes the whole room (and you, when you look in the mirror) appear drab and lifeless. Most hotels know that good lighting, especially in the bathroom, are key to guest impressions. But the Garden City Hotel eschews all best practices of the industry in exchange for trying to beat you over the head with "luxury" branding and prices, while delivering nothing of notable value.
The only option for brunch on the weekends is $120/person buffet. No one wants that, the dining room was mostly empty, leaving piles of lobster and other foods to go to waste.
If you've stayed at an actual luxury hotel, you'll immediately see how basic The Garden City Hotel is. Apparently their management has never had the privilege of patronizing a quality hotel. It's a shame there's nothing nicer in the area. But that's Long Island for you."

"There’s a reason this Hotel is a Long Island Nassau County Destination Location!!!!! I just met one of the servers during my 2 night stay at breakfast who’s been here 35 Years!!!! He was ONLY 53 and said he has at least 15 more and doesn’t work a day! The staff at this hotel is beyond fabulous!!!! I’ve been here a few times but this was the first time I actually stayed a couple nights. I challenge anyone to find a better staff in a hotel! Everyone smiles! Everyone is happy and goes out of the way to assist you with anything! No one wears a frown no one has a negative attitude! And everything is TOP OF THE LINE! But not over the top. I look forward to coming back already and haven’t even check out yet.
The rooms are beautiful, beds are very comfortable and bathrooms with great shower pressure are fantastic. This might be as close to heaven you can get. I thank everyone at the hotel for the amazing hospitality during my stay and having the pleasure speaking with the GM & F&B Outlets Manger to the bartenders service front desk valet..Beginning to End!!! CHEERS!!!"
