Georgetown Hiking Club: Oct 16 at Berry Springs Park and Preserve. 10:45 AM meet up, hike at 11AM.

We will meet at the pavilion behind the donkeys. I'm shooting for a three mile hike. We will hike to I35 and see how far the trail goes and turn back at 1.5 miles. The trail is mostly paved and sneakers will be fine. Bring some water and a snack. If there is bad weather…

Our Next hike will be at Berry Springs and Park Preserve. I'll get there at 9am and leave at 9:15 am. How long we hike will depend on who shows up this time. We'll plan for a 2 mile hike, but possibly more depending on how everyone's feeling and how hot it feels. There's…

Where is a good spot to take your son camping?

I'd like to go on a journey with my son. Ideally, I'm looking for someplace where there are trails, where we could hike 5 miles before setting up camp and where we could fish and have a campfire. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas it's super appreciated.

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about Berry Springs Park and Preserve's beautiful, shaded trails and abundant wildlife, including friendly donkeys. The park is well-maintained and offers a peaceful escape with opportunities for hiking, fishing, and camping. Some visitors note the need to be aware of snakes during warmer months and emphasize the strict leash policy for dogs.

"This is such a wonderful park. The trails are shaded for the most parts, which is great for summer evenings or afternoons. There are several bird viewing decks. We spotted one deer and a heron. The park is of course, dog friendly, but please keep your dogs leashed. There is also a pen with two donkeys who are cute and may them up to you (near the fence) to get some pets. Plenty of parking and there’s also restrooms as well as covered picnic tables."

Malavika Kale

"Saw 2 kinds of herons, a duck and a snake swimming in the lake. The trail around the lake has some beautiful views. Primitive campsites further away look neat, would like to camp there. A long paved trail ends with a nice loop trail going close to the creek."

Aleksey Titov

"This place is gorgeous, smaller trails & longer to accommodate everyone. Mostly pavement but able to go off to the side for some gravel / rocky ones.
This is a LEASHED park & they have signs about reporting off leash dogs. So if you’re looking for an off leash hike, this isn’t the right park for you.
Obviously, there’s lots of tall grass. We saw a rattlesnake on the side of the trail, so just be aware of your surroundings during prime snake time."
