Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the beautiful, wild nature of Crane Wildlife Refuge and its potential for wildlife viewing and kayaking. However, many note significant issues with poor trail signage and maintenance, as well as concerns about ticks and unexpected entrance closures.

"The decaying partial deer carcass with the head still on that was in the parking lot (In July) next to the dumped appliances should have been my sign. But no. We trudged on. The assumed paths were not marked, and not maintained. Thankfully, after I was stung or bitten by something that was clearly angry and possessed (based on the swelling), I was fortunate to be able to follow the trail of scattered clothing through the woods and back to the deer head. The oversized ticks that were running up my leg to avoid the repellent, while I was driving out of there, was just a bonus. Apparently, that was just one of a few entrances to this area, so I had to know how this mess got such a high rating- so I navigated down the street to the next entrance and was stopped by a Road Closed sign leading to the entrance. Probably best. Zero chance I will ever return to this place."

J Mason

"Beautiful wild nature. Something to see in all seasons. Very lucky to call this place home. Navigating the trails can get a bit difficult, attaching a trail map for reference."

Clayton Karges

"Parker River is a great area when water levels are up. About a 1mi walk to access the pond."
