What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find Dogtown Common and Babson Boulders to be a fun and unique hiking experience, particularly enjoying the scavenger hunt aspect of finding the carved boulders and exploring historical cellars. However, the inconsistent and often absent trail markings are a significant drawback, frequently leading to confusion and hikers getting lost.
"Really fun trail. Def a lot of places to get lost, because all kinds of trails go off to the sides, and the side trails and blue trail are not as flat as the red trail, but it was fun. It was about .7 miles from the parking lot to “dog town common.” The red trail has numbered rocks with signs that have QR codes, but the codes are alls scratched and worn.
Then you turn at a rock that says “DT SO” and go right. Then you wander through the fun boulders.
It is SO buggy, and I had caterpillars landing on me constantly and kept walking into webs. I dogged a few snakes too. It’s a lot more nature than most trails I’ve been on around here."

"Nice trail to see some masonwork from long ago. The trail wasn't long or difficult at all, but it wasn't marked really well. So definitely snap a photo of the map before heading into the trails, as there are several different ones you can take once you start walking them. You'll hear gun shots off in the distance but that's because there is a shooting range close by. Bring bug spray, as it is a little damp in certain areas. Cool to see how many of the carved out boulders you can find."

"Great history with the numbered cellars and the Babson boulders. Mostly nice trails but the worst trail system I have ever been on. Random blazes, nothing consistent. A blaze then get to a fork and nothing in either direction. These posts with long gone info on most of them and vague info on the ones you can read. A map at the kiosk going in but not a very good one. Looks like there’s probably info on the back but they didn’t have any to take.
When you get to the kiosk do not go into the woods lol
Go down the road to the yard waste dump past the gate. That’s just a small part of the trail system though. I was lost for 4 miles of a5.5 mile hike lol. And I probably only covered half of the trails.
Hint: when you see small trails off main trails take them in a little bit to find some of the boulders, further back though past the cellars"
