Looked through the huge telescope at the Lake Afton Observatory and wished I could’ve attached my camera to it! The cosmic arch of the Milky Way floating past the observatory dome. After I shut down the telescope inside, the skies were still clear enough for me to take some shots. . . . This image is made from only 6 x 180s (clouds came in after this), and despite the typical Kansas haze, I captured some incredible detail, including multiple nebula and star clusters. The chance to view celestial objects through powerful telescopes and the engaging, educational atmosphere make it a highly recommended destination for families and astronomy enthusiasts alike. While some light pollution is present, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive.

"What a little gem. Run by volunteers who are exceptionally knowledgeable. We visited 28th March and booked in advance ($8 each) but you can just turn up too. We were very lucky with the visibility. We saw Jupiter, Mars, Orion Nebula and Pliades through the big telescope and Richard set up an outside telescope where we saw so many stars, galaxies and a comet plus the ISS flee overhead. A marvellous evening. Well worth a visit."

"Definitely bang for the buck! Our multigenerational family had an educational, fun experience last night. Well worth a drive."

Wendi Jones

"This was A wonderful experience. We were there for the full three hours. They moved the telescope around to see different planets and constellation. They also have a pad out back where they have a couple big telescopes too, that you can move around and see different planets and constellations. And if you have a small telescope, you can also bring it and set it up outside on the pad. Will be back!!!!!"
